History

The Y&V Group was established in 1985 through the merger Yanes & Asociados an engineering firm, and DRV, a construction company, each having a long tradition in the Venezuelan contracting market. The historical roots of the founding companies of Y&V Group reach back to the early 1960´s, when Adolfo Yanes began with a focus on engineering projects for the infrastructural sector in Venezuela.

Since then, the Y&V Group has continuously expanded its technological know-how, enjoyed strong growth and successfully developed into one of the leading Venezuelan EPC contractors for industrial projects with a regional scope of activity. Some of the highlights of the history of the Y&V Group are:

 

   

1980´s

 
   
  • 1985:

Merger of assets and operations of Yanes & Asociados and DRV under one single roof and brand, targeting the Venezuela EPC market for civil infrastructure and industrial plant projects.
 

1990´s

   
  • 1992:

Accreditation of Yanes & Asociados as general contractor for the Venezuela oil company PDVSA, initializing specialized EPC infrastructural projects for PDVSA affiliates across the country.
  • 1994:

Successful establishment of Yanes & Asociados as general EPC contractor for revamps of refinery auxiliaries of PDVSA and affiliated companies in Venezuela.
  • 1995:

Acquisition of the engineering firm Ecoproyectos to further support Yanes & Asociados´ environmental know-how as EPC contractor.
  • 1998:

Establishing Empresas Y&V as brand in the contracting market while incorporating all Yanes & Asociados companies and affiliates under one holding structure and unified management
  • 1998:

Take-over of Procegas as one of the leading process engineering firms of Venezuela to further expand Y&V´s know-how in connection to gas and gas related products.
  • 1999:

Award of a major contract for the engineering, procurement and construction of SINCOR´s oil production main station and clusters in the state of Anzoátegui, Venezuelan on a lump sum turnkey EPC basis.
 

2000´S until today

   
  • 2004:

Y&V establishes itself as general contractor for the petrochemical industry and is awarded a turnkey EPC contract for the rehabilitation of a major urea and ammonia plant for Pequiven in the state of Zulia. The project execution was more than 10 million man hours, achieving a total net capacity of 900 MTPD p.a.
  • 2004:

Successful expansion abroad and initiation of project based activities in Mexico. Nominated by PEMEX as part of the project management team for the expansion of the “General Lázaro Cárdenas Refinery.” The goal was to double the refinery capacity to 350 MBDP p.a.
  • 2005:

Awarded an EPC contract by PDVSA and ENI for the conversion of an MTBE plant (etherification) into an Iso-Octane plant (dimerization), which at the time was the first project of its kind in Latin America.
  • 2007:

Successful project based entry into the Canadian contracting market. Together with an international partner award of a major lump sum EPC turnkey contract from Canadian Natural Resources for the mechanical erection of secondary up-graders as well as gasoil and distillate hydro treatment systems for CNTL  Refinery in Alberta, Canada.
  • 2007:

Joining international partners, awarded a lump sum turnkey EPC contract for the execution of a 1,800 MTPD ammonia and 2,200 MTPD granular urea plant for Pequiven in the state of Carabobo.
  • 2008:

Acquisition of Delta from Chile and positioning of Y&V as general contractor for industrial projects in power, mining and infrastructure sectors in Chile.
  • 2008:

Opening a representation office in Houston, Texas for market and partner relations with general contractors and engineering companies based in the USA.
  • 2009:

Establishing a representation office in Madrid, Spain to maintain relations with strategic European partners and engineering firms from Europe.
  • 2009:

Expansion of EPC activities into the power sector. Joining international partners, awarded a lump sum turnkey EPC contract by Corpoelec for the development of a 1080 MW combined cycle power plant in the greater Caracas area, servicing the power needs of the capital of Venezuela.
  • 2010/11:

Acquisition Bohorquez, an engineering firm, and market entry into the Colombian EPC market on the basis of engineering services for leading local petroleum companies.
