History

Y&V was incorporated in 1985, when was decided to bring under a single-services-organization certain other areas in addition to engineering, such as construction and assembly, operation and maintenance and aspects related to the measurement and supervision of the impact of those works on the environment.
However, Y&V's background is in fact the sum of the individual stories of its affiliates, which tell of 50 years’ experience in consultancy in the areas of engineering and construction projects for the oil, gas, petrochemical, industrial, infrastructure and electricity sectors.

The execution of important works in the oil, gas and petrochemical areas have marked a solid line of action for Y&V, since the corporation executed its first EPC project for -PDVSA affiliate- Maraven's materials warehouse and move within the Cardón Refinery - now the Paraguaná Refinery Center. Between 1994 and 1998 it also executed the Private Electricity Interconnection and Rehabilitation of Piers 1 and 3 at the Amuay Refinery. The experience in this area has been consolidated with the execution of a broad range of projects, as the design and construction of SINCOR's Surface Production Facilities at San Diego de Cabrutica, in southern Anzoátegui State, Venezuela between the years 1999 and 2003. Another important project in Y&V's trajectory was the Rehabilitation between 2004 and 2005 of the Urea and Ammoniac Plants at El Tablazo, Zulia State, Venezuela, which was completed in the record time of just nine months.

The years 2005 and 2006 marked the beginning of a new stage of expansion and consolidation for Y&V when it undertook the Jose 250 Project as contractor for PDVSA Gas, which involved the supply of professional personnel of many different engineering disciplines who made up work groups or worked on specific projects or activities directly related to the gas facilities.

Together with its partner Man Ferrostaal, between 2006 and 2008 it undertook the execution of a project to increase the production capacity of High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) for POLINTER, also located at El Tablazo, Zulia State, which involved the EPC for the expansion of the plant's capacity from 16 t/h to 20 t/h. The projected covered the construction of the area for the preparing of catalyzers; polymerization; a new drying area; a new pelletization area and service area.

Thanks to the expertise it has developed in the gas sector, Y&V has been able to participate in the CIGMA Project (the Gran Mariscal de Ayacucho Industrial Complex) which is to be located in Güiria, Sucre State, which will include, among other plants, the installation of facilities for the conditioning of gas coming from the five non-associated gas fields approximately 40 km offshore to the north of the Paria Peninsula within the Gran Mariscal Sucre Project (PMS). The gas conditioning will consist in dehydration, sweetening (removal of H2S and CO2) and extraction of liquids.

There is no question that adaptation of the Urea and Ammoniac Plants at the Morón Petrochemical Complex marked a milestone in the life of Y&V as a company. More than 10 million man-hours went into the achievement of this important petrochemical sector project.

Starting in 2007, with plans to finish in 2010, working with its international partners Toyo Engineering and Man Ferrostaal, Y&V will accomplish the project for the completion of the 1,800 MTPD Ammoniac Plant, the Granular Urea Plant, including the 2,200 MTPD urea synthesis section and all the services and off-site infrastructure required by both plants.

With the engineering, procurement and construction of Sulfuric Acid Plant III at Morón, Carabobo State, Pequiven again relied on Y&V's team of professionals to execute the detail engineering of the civil works, structure, electricity, instrumentation and fire-fighting system; procurement of locally-supplied materials and equipment; transportation of imported materials from Puerto Cabello to the worksite; construction of the whole plant, including the sulfur and sulfuric acid tanks.

German company Outotec provided the technology for this project, and together with Y&V will participate in the execution of the EPC which is due to start in 2011.
Starting in 2009, Y&V is expanding its scope of business by consolidating itself in the electricity sector as the local partner of the Spanish firm Duro Felguera, through its participation in the construction of the combined-cycle Termocentro, plant to be located in Los Valles del Tuy, Miranda State, Venezuela. The work was contracted by La Electricidad de Caracas, an affiliate of CORPOELEC.

Starting in July 2009, ending 2014, approximately 5 million man-hours will be dedicated to developing the EPC of the 1,050 MW capacity plant. The plant will have two power trains; each train will have two gas turbo-generators, two steam recovery boilers and one steam turbo-generator.

Internationalization

Thanks to its solid background, characteristic world-class services and leadership, ten years back Y&V decided to broaden its horizons and bet on internationalization. Since then it has managed to create a presence in countries such as Mexico, the United States and Canada, through different oil-sector projects.

The internationalization of the corporation's activities began with it was contracted by PEMEX, Petróleos Mexicanos, for the expansion of the General Lázaro Cárdenas Refinery at Minatitlán, Mexico, in the year 2003. Also of note, there have been important projects executed for the CITGO oil company in the United States.

But the expansion has not been limited to these 2 nations, since the year of 2006 Canada has become another country where Y&V can say "We're here!" In this case the exploitation of the Fort MacMurray tar sands north of Calgary, opened another path on the route of our company's geographical diversification.

It should be mentioned that with this project Y&V not only conquered a new market beyond Venezuela's borders, but also managed to become the first Venezuelan corporation installed in Calgary for the purposes of participating in heavy oil upgrading projects of the immense Canadian reserves.

Other areas of development

Y&V's expansion in the areas of infrastructure and industry goes back to the year 1995 when the corporation executed the conceptual, basic and detail engineering of Coca Cola's Mega Soft-Drink Bottling Plant (Mega Planta Embotelladora de Refrescos), in Aragua State, Venezuela, and continued its consolidation with the engineering, procurement and contraction project of Pepsi Cola's Presazulia Bottling Plant in Zulia State, Venezuela. In this sector we would also note the year 2000 construction of the Frito-Lay factory in Aragua State and that of the headquarters of Diario El Tiempo, in Anzoátegui State, Venezuela. Between the years 1998 and 2000, Y&V completed for SINCOR, the construction of a  10-building administrative complex within the crude upgrading area at Jose (Anzoátegui State, Venezuela) whose design is explosion-proof. More recently, towards the end of 2006, construction work was finished on the new headquarters of Pfizer in Caracas, constructed in record time.

Nowadays, Y&V stands as a well-respected institution and whose leadership in each of its areas of action is unquestionably supported by its successful development of all the projects it has executed. These reasons, together with the professional quality of all of its workers have meant that over the coming decades new opportunities will open up for doing business in the Middle East.
